WhatsApp have announced that they now have 1 billion users.
In a blog post yesterday they claimed that accounts for 1 in every 7 people on earth, using their product each month.
They listed a few of the ways in the apps is used in this paragraph:
“Whether it’s sharing vital information during natural disasters or health emergencies, finding a date, growing a small business, buying an engagement ring, or seeking a better life – we’re honored to be a small part of what people are doing to make their lives and the lives of those around them better.”
The growth of the platform under the ownership of Facebook has been impressive and we anticipate that will continue with a much more business orientated future presenting itself soon.
The recent dropping of the annual subscription fee is certain to see new revenue streams coming through additional commercial page and customer service use.
The closing statement of the blog said much about the ambition Facebook have for WhatsApp – citing the fact that they still have 6 billion people to connect (those around the globe that aren’t using it!).
Rival Snapchat has been enjoying success of late too and adding more features to their app, but there is no doubt that WhatsApp remains the messaging app of choice for those over 17 years of age in our experience (Snapchat still holds a huge fanbase with younger generations).
