Instagram is rolling out a feature that shows the number of views a video has received.
Announced in a blog post, Instagram cited the increase in video popularity on the channel by saying:
“Over the last six months, the time people spent watching videos on Instagram increased by more than 40 percent.”
They included a screenshot from their app to show the feature.
In the image on the left you can see a view count just below the photograph and above the comments.
In the image on the right, obtained by clicking on the view count, it shows the people who’ve liked the video.
Instagram hint at more features centred around video to come with a closing line to say:
“Adding view counts is the first of many ways you’ll see video on Instagram get better this year.”
They also quoted the findings of Nielsen, in conjunction with Facebook, that say 47% of the value of a video is decided in the first 3 seconds of viewing, rising to 74% in the first 10 seconds.
Suffice to say, if you’re going to produce a video campaign….get the beginning right!
